About Us

What is Osmanlitarihi.tr?

Osmanlitarihi.tr is a history platform that documents the 623-year journey of the Ottoman Empire — founded in 1299 and ended in 1922 — together with its sultans, wars, culture, art, science and daily life. Our aim is to translate academic history sources into clear language and make them accessible to high-school and university students, history enthusiasts and general readers.

Our Mission

Online resources on Ottoman history are either highly technical (academic theses) or superficial (forum posts and listicles). We set out to fill that gap by offering accurate, well-sourced and readable content for an English-speaking audience interested in Ottoman and broader Middle Eastern history.

Our Editorial Process

Every article on the site goes through the following stages:

  • Topic selection: Driven by reader interest, search demand and historical significance.
  • Source research: We consult academic books, university press publications, the TDV Encyclopaedia of Islam, Turkish Historical Society (TTK) sources and English-language academic literature.
  • Drafting: AI-assisted tools may be used at the drafting stage; no content is published without editorial review.
  • Editorial review: Dates, names, places and figures are verified, and the prose is edited for clarity and accuracy.
  • Publication and updates: Articles are revised when new information emerges or an error is reported; the update date appears at the bottom of each article.

For full details, see our Editorial Policy.
